Printed Materials
- Books: Our library has over 3,700 titles on the shelves and ready to access; 700 of those are specific to Douglas County and another 1,000 are related to the state of Oregon.
- Cemetery Records: GSDC has done physical inventories of most cemeteries in Douglas County. These inventories have been typed and put into notebooks for library patron use.
- Family Files: An ongoing and growing effort... we have hundreds of file folders with various items sorted by surname. These file folders contain newspaper clippings, obituaries, photos, birth, marriage and death certificates, probate records, and more. Contents vary from file to file.
- Obituary Records: GSDC volunteers began collecting obituaries and death notices from local sources in 1984 and continue collecting them to this day. There are a few missing years in the 1980s and 1990s due to lack of volunteers. Hundreds of earlier obituaries have added as we come across them. Volunteers are now working on an index to this collection. The index is available on our website.
Tools for Online Research
- Computers for Online Research: Our library has two computer stations for members and the public to use. We have online access to Ancestry.com, Find A Grave, Newspapers.com, and Fold 3.com. In addition, our Family Tree Maker genealogy database boasts in excess of 80,000 names related to Douglas County residents!
